The most famous of the early psychoanalytical journals, established by Sigmund Freud, offers a wealth of significant articles throughout its 23 volumes which were published from 1912 onward. These articles were mostly first publications, all by leading psychoanalysts in the first and second generation, on questions of theory, practice, and cultural application of psychoanalysis. Imago was published until 1919 by Verlag Hugo Heller (Vienna), who also owned the gallery where Arnold Schönberg’s paintings were exhibited (see Object 36). Writings by Sigmund Freud have not been found in Schönberg’s Estate, but it can be presumed that the composer took note of the achievements by his Viennese contemporary in some form or other.
